Really even calling it indifferent isn't right, because it isn't that either. It just is. Intentional qualifies don't seem to apply.

But I wasn't trying to be too metaphysical. Or, more accurately, the metaphysics I was trying to talk about weren't the calm and calculated metaphysics that I would probably ascribe to myself if I wanted to sound intelligent. Those aren't the ones I always use. Instead I was writing about the metaphysics I believe in when I'm exhausted and hungry and can only think about 1) Why the hell am I not still asleep and 2) Why the hell is the subway still not here yet. In times like these you can be fairly certain that the universe is not only malevolent, but is using all of its deterministic capabilities to make sure are aware of that malevolence. Words and language are innately quite limited, though of course necessary to make sense of and communicate with the world around us. Faulkner, for instance, who possessed one of the most stark gifts of the pen still writes, ' I knew that that word was like the others: just a shape to fill a lack". To the abstract mind this lack permutates the cause and effect logic of language, creating a void of emotion that is searching for connection and transcendence.

Consequently, I find myself conquering with Shopenhaur that "Perhaps the reason why common objects in still life seem so transfigured and generally everything painted appears in a supernatural light is that we then no longer look at things in the flux of time and in the connection of cause and effect …. On the contrary, we are snatched out of that eternal flux of all things and removed into a dead and silent eternity. In its individuality the thing itself was determined by time and by the [causal] conditions of the understanding; here we see this connection abolished and only the Platonic Idea is left." But, can this platonic idea be described in words? which seems to be an essential role of the artistic statement you have outlined. I would agree with you and say no, as being merely a spectator I must attest to the all too common experience of being mesmerized by a Rothko into a state of catharsis with blissfully no words to describe this true visceral connection.

cheers and keep painting,

az

Chris I like this a lot. They have a long history of screwing finalists over. For example, artist Johnathan Brilliant won the Miami competition only to have the sites founder, Catherine McCormack-Skiba, tell him that his artwork was not appropriate for the exhibit. Their "prestigious" jurors selected him for the exhibit, but the founders decides to censor him? What gives? The same thing happened to a finalist of the New York, New York competition. It is total bollocks!

I never sold anything on the site after three years. Since that time I put my money into having my own website and I think it was the best move I ever made. The only thing that attracted me to Myartspace is the competitions and they are obviously not what they are presented to be. If you are going to spend money on an art site make sure you spend in on your own website!!! These clowns just want your money!!!!

Need more proof of that? When the founder decided to sale her mothers paintings she did not even use NYAXE, the e-commerce platform for Myartspace, she instead hired an online auction house. If the founder views her e-commerce platform as being worthless why should any of us use it? I wish someone would expose these guys!!!!

I'd be careful dealing with them.
